A not so bad Sci-Fi B movie
This movie is kind of entertaining for the sci-fi fan. It has many references to other Sci-Fi creations, including Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate, Battle Star Galatcia and Dune. In fact the film must assume many of the users are familiar with many of these Stories as elements of each are used throughout. For instance Stargates are used both with no explanation of what for. The film is scattered with cheesy humor, that gives it much charm. The start of the movie features a 5+ minute prologue, which in part seems to be put in to extend the movie length. Don't see it to be blown away by special effects. See it when you are in the mood for some grade B Sci-fi.
The Redbox special...
It's probably exactly what you expect..Rarely do films actually 'Surprise!' you these days...with all the hype given to any movie (regardless of how odd or bad) with a large budget, you get an idea of the movie...especially after a few reviews, what your friends say, and so on and so on....Well the same goes for these movies...the one's you 'Don't' hear about...You don't see the 'stars making the rounds on all thee late night talk shows, promoting their newest flick (& always pretending they have 'no-idea' what the clip is they brought with them)...So these films end up in the usual places...the bargain bins, the blockplaces will have a single copy (usually) and then there's Redbox...who unlike most places, let's you know upfront they have a mixture of the the best movies as they're released and tell you honestly that they have some genuine 'B'- movies...So, yeah, rent this one if you like sci-fi flicks, realizing it was done on a less than stellar budget and cut everyone involved with it some slack...The great thing about it is 'You might just find a real gem' among the 'B'-Movies available, but don't expect it...This has some good points and some low spots...But then again, keep in mind it had a 'B' budget too...
This film is a B-movie sci-fi flick that grew on me very much towards the end!!
I expected this film to be terrible and to be honest the trailers before the film starts were not good. It also took a good half hour to warm up to the "Fire Fly" type camp they attempted in this flick BUT I actually really liked it. I think it's a really fun film that gives great hope to low-budget sci-fi. Sure there's a ton of bad CGI but the story still functions and I actually thought the female lead was great. Congrats guys! This film is very watchable and gives a good jolt of energy to the indie sci-fi. It seems desk top special effects are getting to a point where they are starting to look closer and closer to Hollywood effects.
A Great "B" Movie
Not many known actors however their acting was better then most and they were actually funny in some scenes and the acting was believable, This actors could make better movies with a better budget. The movie itself was a nice spin on Erich Von Däniken ideas and they used all the latest scientific findings. I love documentary's about long dead people that's how I found out at first we had Neanderthal DNA, So we didn't kill them as was thought before, our genes did by crossbreeding. So they used all the latest facts, but I won't mention them because I don't want to spoil the movie. The movie itself wasn't more expensive then 2 Stargate episodes however I prefer some of the effects in this movie, not all just some, you understand when you see it. I was really expecting some crap but this was entertaining and I even shed a tear in the end, it was quite moving your not human if you can hold a straight face. I give it a 10 because a nine feels to little and I can't really complain about anything, if the actors were more famous and the movie were more expensive it could be a real Hit. It was something of a accident that I saw the movie but it was a really nice surprise, it saved my evening. A few laughable names but you can survive it. Give this movie a chance you'll be surprised......... It kind of feels like your watching a Stargate episode, however there are some different ideas and the Von Däniken spin also changes some.....
Flash bangs and spaceships, drama and comedy..Not bad...
Just watched it. 8 out of 10. Really different. First 8 minutes is an explanation of the history up to the year 2800 then it's a kinda b-movie but with great quality. It drifts quite randomly from action,to comedy to drama and human emotion. The ending is indeed sad, but a very good one also if you ask me. The film does well to take into account that we have evolved socially, genetically and of technologically. We find an array of characters, each given an equal dialog to display their dilemmas and beliefs. The captain is indeed a very Han Soloeque man, and with the ability to fire out four letter words, we soon adopt a lot of respect for him. All the supporting roles were good, and the story also not too bad. The special effects are given a lot of screen time, and they are above par to your standard b film.
