Excellent portrait of a Las Vegas dancer, on the brink of stardom, whose obsession with her boyfriend, Blu, leads to her eventual undoing. Having been recently assaulted by a former beau, our heroine meets up with this fellow dancer and their relationship may best be described as tumultuous. She has love for him despite his constantly cheating ways and she allows herself to have this affect her aspiring career; although, she is constantly warned by her choreographer that her performance must come first. It's basically the story of a girl who nearly had it all and allowed her obsession to destroy everything and ultimately end her life.
The Story Of A The Vegas Showgirl
This Lifetime TV movie "Death Of A Vegas Showgirl" was based on the true-to-life story of murder of Las Vegas showgirl, Debbie Flores- Narvaez, and her dancing boyfriend, Jason "Blu" Griffith. Roselyn Sanchez and Danso Gordon, who portray Debbie and Blu respectively, star in this TV movie that tells the story of the love affair between the two dancers that is characterized by passion, anger and betrayal. Aaron Pearl, Ben Wilkinson,Kirby Morrow,Jason Cermak and Jordana Largy co-star in this movie directed by Penelope Buitenhuis. No question that we get to see a biographic TV movie about Debbie, who apparently is a brilliant woman aside from being a pretty face having a sexy body being a degree holder of both Law and finance and a former cheerleader of the Washington Redskins, whose passion for dancing led her into pursuing her dream of becoming a showgirl at Las Vegas. She did succeed in her pursuit becoming a dancer for Luxor. Too bad that having a tumultuous and rocky love affair with Blu led her into her destruction as she continued to stay in relationship with her boyfriend despite of his constant unfaithfulness. It eventually led to her demise in the end. The TV movie based on the book,Dancing on Her Grave: The Murder of a Las Vegas Showgirl could have been an interesting biographic TV movie.Too bad that this fell into the trap of being a clichéd and predictable movie as all the details were presented for the viewer. Also,Roselyn Sanchez portrayed Debbie as a typical showgirl who could be a dancer and nothing more instead of a complex individual being a brilliant woman who has extreme passion for dancing and someone in need of love.Added to that,Debbie's murder was obviously far from being a mystery as the viewer would probably know her murderer way before the end of the movie. In the end, this could have been interesting but the screenplay written Brian D. Young told the complex story of Debbie in a simple manner.
Roselyn Sanchez acts and dances well
This is a well made and well written true life murder movie based on as the title states, the death of a Vegas dancer. Roselyn Sanchez displays her talent as a dancer with some very professional looking sequences. Quite amazing for an actress who is over 40 - she is in great shape. She is a moving and convincing actress showing a lot of zest in the beginning and anguish during her troubled times. The actor who played her lover wasn't well cast. He didn't look hot enough to be so obsessed over. And his acting was a bit laid back. This movie shows some of the sacrifice and hard work behind many of the talented dancers trying to make their way. The victim is a sympathetic character even though you wonder why a pretty talented woman would care so much for an abusive cheater. Worth watching.
