Kosovo, 1999. As the civil war between Serbs and Albanians rages, hatred has replaced tolerance, and towns are brutally divided along ethnic lines. The death of Danica's husband at the hands of the Albanians has left profound traces in the family. Little Danilo has not spoken a word since, and Vlado has become a hooky-playing loner who dreams of owning a bright blue bicycle. In order to be able to afford it, he dives into the Ibar every day to catch fish which the kiosk owner buys from him for a few coins. In spite of the war, everyone in the community strives to lead normal lives. But one day, Danica returns from town to find a seriously injured Kosovo-Albanian soldier, Ramiz, in her house. Though aware that he is on the run from the Serbian militia, Danica takes Ramiz in and nurses him ...

Die Brücke am Ibar (2012) Reviews
a war story. and little more
first virtue - the cold delicate poetry of image and story. than - the wise manner to suggest. a war, a community's life, role of the bridge, solitude of a woman, the childhood, the love. result - a gem. not a manifesto, not a masterpiece, not a homage or memento. only a gem about a contemporary event signification, without guilts or pledge for a cause. like every film about the experiences from Yougoslavia of 1999, My Beautiful Country is a form of exorcism. but different for the high level of sensitivity, for simple story, for the special atmosphere, for silences and for the memories. a film about a woman and a man. like many others. about decisions. and theirs traces. about child's impressions about the events. and about hope. so, see it !
A piece of crap
Well this certainly sounds like a fairly tale. It takes place amids Serb-Albanian conflict during Kosovo war. Premise is absolutely dumb. A Serbian wife is left with her two sons, as the father got killed (read: probably during killing some poor innocent Albanians). Then one day she founds an Albanian wooden soldier on the run (from gross Serbian militia) . The fairly tale begins when she nurtures him and then falls in love. This scenario might work in any other country but not here. It simply won't. This is not Helsinki syndrome case, it's even worse .I suppose the ultimate message is another "love conquers all" or "make love, not war". If it not was for gross political propaganda. A total waste of time.
