King of the Camp (2008) Reviews
Awful--Amateurish and poorly written and executed.
I felt a little sorry for the performers in this piece of garbage, but only till they started doing the Chow Time dance number. Then I lost all pity for them and wanted them to leave the screen as soon as possible. I've seen better work in junior high school assemblies. I just realized that my review won't be posted unless it contains ten lines of text. Well, I'm going to have to work really hard to find anything more to say about this totally forgettable piece of adolescent pablum. But even if I only make it to nine and a half lines, that will contain more thought than anyone put into the making of this sorry excuse for a film. Oh, man-I still have two more lines. I wish now I'd never stumbled on this movie. It's now wasting way too much of my life. One of the girls was sort of cute, but it's still a really bad movie. If you think your kids might enjoy it, you should be working harder to raise smarter children. That was rude. Sorry. Okay--that's ten or more lines.
Terrible excuse for a Musical
If you're looking for a movie that will make you want to literally throw your T.V out the window, then this is the movie for you! This movie was utterly terrible. The acting made me feel like I was watching a terrible high school play and the way the camera moved was like a home video. I didn't really understand it though! I mean, what type of camp was this? Why were there only 'popular' people as councilors? Why do they look down to the kitchen staff? It just made no sense. And the dancing was awful! NO ONE was in sync and it was just choppy. And most importantly, all the actors singing voices, just didn't cut it for this movie. They all sounded inexperienced. I mean, I can sing, and I've never had a singing lesson in my life. It just seems that every musical that is being made now, is trying to be exactly like High School Musical or Camp Rock. Just face it Future Directors and Producers of low budget Musicals, you will not be able to top High School Musical or Camp Rock's success. I definitely do not recommend this movie to anyone.
Below Average Musical, Terrible Music
This movie is not very good. The acting is below average with nobody you've ever heard of starring in the movie. The script is also below average and you can pretty much tell exactly how the entire story is going to unfold from the first moment the movie starts right up to the end. The worst part of all though is the music. It is as if they just threw pocket change and some candy at a grade four music class and asked them to come up with some songs to put in a movie and they wrote and recorded everything in about ten minutes. The dancing and choreography are also below average. Skip this movie, you've been warned.
Catchy and Fun!
I really liked King of the Camp - it was a fun musical and had a bit more depth to it than other movies in the genre. The leads, Cindy and Will, seemed like real genuine people. You could tell the studio behind the movie wanted to appeal to both boys and girls, because there is a strong wakeboarding presence in the film. The stunts are pretty amazing, including the lead actor who jumps onto a dock on a wakeboard from the water. And the DVD came with a free soundtrack - the songs were another strong point of the movie. The ghost story was particularly good - all the songs seemed to fit the theme of being at camp.
Not bad, fairly clean, good songs
It's not like HSM is Shawshank Redemption either. But yes, the acting is sub-par, dialogue is sophomoric and the dancing is simplistic. But story is simple to follow, and fairly clean movie. If it's aimed at tweeners, it misses the mark for my taste. For 16er's, I suppose it's alright in this day and age. There are some sexuality exerted between the yoga and cheerleader girls. This is where it's a little much for tweeners. Probably like someone said, some of the actors look more like their in their 30's. Again, the story is clean, it conveys good moral values and the songs are actually good. Being a movie with wake-boarding, though not a wake-boarding person myself, there could have been more and better quality wakeboarding at the least. But finally, at least my mind wasn't propagandized by blockbuster movies that try to sell sell sell worldly ideals and products to me, ad nauseum. Not the best 1.6 hours, but good values and catchy tunes... "we'll be friends forever, singing the songs we love together..." Was on my DVR, not worth saving. But didn't complain like after I saw Clash of the Titans.
