In March of 2002, the top executives at the Fox Television Network met on a Monday morning, to exchange information about a new reality program rumored to be in production. The idea had all the makings of "the next big thing," and so a strategy was immediately hatched to acquire the show which was being produced by two young filmmakers, with the backing of a European financier. By April of 2002, production was halted on the show, with no finale in the can, and a police investigation pending. On the advice of counsel, the filmmakers refused to take any calls or answer any questions regarding their show. Since then, the story behind the show has become the stuff of Hollywood urban legend. Now, the producers behind TAKE MY WIFE...PLEASE!, are telling that story for the first time, in a film that goes behind the scenes, and recounts what took place during the making of the show. Reeling in Reality (2005) Reviews
One of the best movies I have ever seen!
I just saw the advance screening of this movie last night. If you are craving a refreshingly sober, honest, witty, dark, but hilarious fresh new movie, go find out how to see this new independent. Ezra Landes is undoubtedly going to be one of the great filmmakers of our time. I don't remember seeing a script so solid. The acting was superb. The plot twists were gripping. The dialog was honest and funny. The music was perfect. The questions it made you ask yourself were profound. The comment on society today was dark but sincere. It truly had everything. This movie will get you talking, not only about its incredible plot and character development, but it will have you repeating the hysterical 1-liners, witty catchphrases, and off-hand oddball remarks over and over with your friends. 2 Thumbs WAY up!!
Not very good.
I don't think this is a very good film; I saw it last year when I was in New York at a screening and when I read that someone actually thought it was worth ten stars I thought I had better say something. For a start I liked the idea but I would have preferred it if the film makers had tried a straight drama instead of a sham documentary together with the shaky camera; the idea is that a couple of young film makers devise their own reality show; in the show they find someone who is terminally ill and then have a competition (the reality show) to find the spouse a new one; in this case a new husband to replace someone called Sheldon who looks as if he truly is dying. As soon as they find the couple the two young film makers start their show. That is where it all goes wrong; because this was a low budget film the so called reality show in the movie looks like a really low budget reality show set in someone's back yard which nobody would watch; the host just isn't very good and some of the suitors for the hand of Sheldon's wife look embarrassed; maybe this was meant to be, I don't know but it certainly isn't good film making. Some of the performances are OK especially from some of the people behind desks that the film makers encounter throughout the movie and I thought the leading actress showed a lot of promise but the leading actor spent almost the entire film with an annoying false cigarette under the guise that he was quitting cigarettes; whomsoever came up with this idea needs their head looking at and the opening shot of this character in the tee shirt which read 'My grandparents went to Auswitch and I ended up with this lousy tee shirt' is just in bad taste no matter who is wearing it.
best movie i've seen in a long time
Take my wife please!!! The producers go where no one has gone before in reality TV. The behind the scenes story is excellent, witty, dark, and totally hilarious. I think Ezra Landes has all the makings of a great director and at least will be recognized as one of the greatest movie makers of the 21st century. I see brilliance here. The actors are great and perfectly cast and Sheldon's wife was par excellence. The story is full of turns and twist that will keep you laughing long after the movie is over. Also, the music made this film even more enjoyable. Take you friends, your wife, and anyone who appreciates a good time. They will surely thank you. And Ezra let me know when your ready to venture to the dark and weird world of Alaska!! Or simply revisit Las Vegas
