It rolled out of Memphis and took the world by surprise. It was a time when Jerry Lee Lewis, with his boogie-style piano playing and flashy performances, was a living legend until he married his thirteen-year-old cousin and caused a national scandal. It was a time when a young Elvis Presley was involved in the legendary Sun label recording sessions and with his tough good looks and sexual gyrations, was creating a phenomenon known as the rock Concert. It was a time when Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly, Little Richard and the Everly Brothers were combining Negro rhythm and blues with a country-western sound and 'tearin' it up' all over the Southeast. They all played at one time or another, at the Nashville Jubilee in Nashville, Tennessee. The Nashville Jubilee is known today as the "Birthplace of the Stars". While watching this movie I felt like I was watching a play. I later found out that it was based off a play. To me, it should have stayed a play. I thought the lead actor was solid, but pretty much everyone else in the movie was overracting. I'm not from the south, but I am pretty sure that most people from that region don't speak that way, or at least I've never heard them speak that way. 90% of this film is 2-3 actors arguing in a dressing room. It felt so small. There were hardly any concert scenes, and even they felt small. During the entire film I just kept thinking to myself "my God are they ever going to leave that damn dressing room!!!" And the plot was a little ridiculous. The main character is on the brink of hitting it big and his sister wants him to come home to take care of his "mama". Not sure why she can't continue to do it. And if they need money then why not let the guy make it big and send money home to his ailing mama. But of course they never think of that b/c then this movie would be 5 minutes long instead of an hour and a half. I just didn't see any reason for this play to be turned into a movie.

  • A couple of things...

First off, I want to let everyone know that "Starwish" is actually Ken Farmer, so you can pretty much ignore that review. Just click on "starwish" and then click on "message board profile" and it will take you to his message board history. From here you can see his post in "contributor help" with a thread called "name corrections" which is clearly signed KEN FARMER. *** Now Mr. Farmer says that review was sent to him. Apparently TV/FILM Actor Alex Cord couldn't post his own review of the film. Pretty fishy to me. So keep that in mind while reading "starwish's" review of the film. Especially the part where he is "riveted" and "on the edge of his seat"(like someone who had never seen the film before), or the part where he says "if the director had the world to choose from...." I suppose I should write a review of the film. How about a review from someone that isn't THE DIRECTOR OF THE FILM? There's a reason this film has a rating of 2.6 and it's because it's a horrible film. It's just two to three people in a dressing room reminiscing about the past and arguing about the future. I think indiefan77 hit the nail pretty much on the head with his review. I too kept wondering "wow, is the whole movie going to take place in that dressing room?". And I didn't really see the point why his sister wanted him to come home just before he's about to make it big. And the whole thing at the end where "he" might be gay was completely unnecessary. Just came out of nowhere and would have ruined this film if it had not already ruined itself. bad movie (good acting though) but no amount of "good acting" could have saved this turdfest. There is a reason why Mr. Farmer is the only one writing a good review for this film.

  • What a splendid job by all concerned. I was riveted.

This review was sent to me by TV/Film actor, Alex Cord, who did attend the screening. It was not written by "Starwish" aka Ken Farmer. I saw Rockabilly Baby at a screening in Dallas. As I sat there watching it unfold I felt privileged and grateful to be there. Most of the time on the edge of my seat. What a splendid job by all concerned! I was riveted. And no car chases, extravagant scenery, nudity, blood and violence, just consummate, compelling performances by extraordinarily talented actors. If the director had the world to choose from he could not have come up with a better cast. Great job of casting and kudos to the director for staying out of their way and letting them rock and roll. The best kind of directing. My hat is off to Denton Everett, Todd Farr and Brandi Price and all the rest. Denton, Todd and Brandi carried the piece like the giant stars they are bound to become. I was also impressed with the quality of the digital photography. Pretty neat. Thanks for a great experience. Rawhide33 (Alex Cord)
