Warm, brave and truthful
A wonderful love story, with Poppy a generous lover as director, this film also depicts honestly and without prejudice warm characters in both families around Poppy, Australian and Sandeep, British-Asian. In particular, it is rare to see on-screen such unfettered description of British-Asian girls, free in their speech and manners, open and joyful and yet mindful of the cultural heritage that they have. Essentially, we see Poppy setting out to find love on-line, as one does. The girl she soon cares for though, lives in England, has had very few gay experiences, lives at home in a Sikh family who does not know she is gay. For the Australian free-spirited filmmaker that is not a mean feat. But undeterred, she actually sends a camera to her new found love interest and sets out on a quest. I would not like to say much more other than it is an unusual story told in simple terms. The few glimpses of Sandeep's mother are also a feat.
