  • Loved it!

I have a seen a lot of Hallmark movies, and this still remains as one of my favorites. I don't know if it's the plot, the way it play out, the characters, or even the New York vibe. I watched this before I went to NY and as a person who lives abroad, I wanted Taylor to fulfill the dream that many of us live through movies and books, go to the big city and do what you love. I will definitely see it again. I swear every time Phil looked at Taylor (after they got to know each other, of course) some part of me melted, and that does not happen in every movie. The actors have great chemistry, and maybe that's what makes this movie so special to me. Unfortunately it doesn't happen in every one, so my advice to you? Watch it, you won't regret it, it's a great way to spend an afternoon.

  • Cute Hallmark Channel movie!

Julianna Guill is adorable as Taylor, the small time girl from Ohio, who's big dreams of fashion in Manhattan start to come true. But the big city's not all she thought it would be as she navigates the noisy, fast-paced, abrasive streets and fashion business by managing an expensive clothing store. Taylor's new boss Alyssa (Vivica Fox) sees something in Taylor's honest but friendly approach to customers and her gift for fashion, but Alyssa has trouble letting go of her own big city habits to give Taylor's new ideas for growth and change a chance. Taylor struggles to both be herself and fit into this concrete jungle while trying to grow her boss's business, make friends, please clients and find a reasonably priced apartment... there enters "the guy"... seeing the displaced and beautiful Taylor, it's Phil to the rescue! Patient and helpful, Phil tries to help Taylor adapt to city life and find a place to live while she, in return, encourages him to follow his own business dreams. In My Humble Opinion: This story line is not anything new or Emmy- worthy, but it's a cute, romantic, chick-flick to pass the time on a lazy afternoon. (PS: I loved Taylor's adorable wardrobe and sweet personality) 6.5 stars 9/2016

  • Julianna makes it worth the Summer

Summer In The City is a TV movie from 2016 and I watched it because I like its star Julianna Guill. Among her previous work was as Eliza Dooley's (Karen Gillan) old high school nemesis Corynn McWatters in the Selfie finale I Woke Up Like This. Curiously enough Summer In The City also featured Natasha Henstridge and she too was also in Selfie. She was in three episodes playing Yazmin Saperstein in Pilot, Even Hell Has Two Bars & Never Block Cookies but not in the said finale with Julianna. Despite being high school enemies in Selfie, Summer In The City provided Julianna to have things in common with Karen. Summer In The City has Julianna playing the manager of a clothing store and expert on fashion in Manhattan. Karen was in the same territory in both fashion and Manhattan. Karen was in the 2008 pilot Stacked which is set in the world of fashion. With Manhattan, Karen was in two narratives that was set in this city as she starred in the TV movie We'll Take Manhattan (also in the world of fashion) and later she sang her Doctor Who swansong with the similarly named The Angels Take Manhattan. In Summer In The City Julianna plays Taylor, the manager of a clothing store in Manhattan. This movie works because of Julianna due to warmth and brilliance in delivering what is given to her. She is beautiful and I love her. Matthew See Julianna Guill's Chinese Husband

  • Small town girls goes to New York

    phd_travel2019-02-11

Small town girl (Julianna Guill) moves to NYC to manage a high end boutique. She faces a capricious an demanding boss (Vivica A Fox) and meets a nice young realtor (Marc Bendavid). She reminds a bit of Alicia Silverstone and they make a cute couple. Like the cameo by Natasha Henstridge - she's pretty. She applies her business style - be honest with the customer. Couple of problems with the plot. She comes across as not a very nice girlfriend. Just dumping him and running off because of work issues. Also encouraging him to defy his family give up a good job and open a food truck business seems a bit immature. At least she doesn't have to give up her NYC dreams. Although there are these aerial shots of NYC it looks like they just blended it with shooting in Canada.

  • Not sure if she made it in the Big City....

My wife and I watched this movie a few weeks ago as the Hallmark Channel was "celebrating Summer" or something like that. This movie started at 11:00 at night, so I could only watch about 30 minutes of it. My wife watched a bit more than 30 minutes of it, but she didn't watch the ending because it was on pretty late. When you have things to do early in the morning, sometimes you just can't stay up and watch "Summer in the City" in its entirety. For the part I watched, I gave the movie 8 thumbs down. However, my wife gave the movie (which she watched a little more of than me) 10 thumbs up. So that leaves a final rating of two thumbs up between my wife and me. This movie was about a woman who is running a small town Ohio clothing store when Vivica A. Fox, who runs a large Manhattan clothing store, inexplicably hires the small-town girl to run her big-city store. It then became a question of "Will she make it in the Big City?" That question was posed by me to my wife several times throughout the parts of this movie that I watched. My wife charitably fielded this question from me over and over again and always responded "Well, I don't know....." Eventually the main character started to make it in the Big City, so my question of "Will she make it in the Big City?" turned into me proclaiming to my wife "She's making it in the big city!" I assume that there was some kind of conflict, resolution, and romance in this movie, but I didn't stay up to watch it. My wife didn't watch the ending either, so we both assume that the main character died, probably when a piece of the Empire State Building broke off and crushed her head.
