East tangles none-too-gently with West, in this hilarious action-comedy where everyone seems to have had a little too much Chicken Chow Mein. All the 5 hardened criminals wanted to do was eat lunch at a Chinese restaurant (The Prosperous Palace) and plan the next day's robbery. Before the first bottle of cognac has even destroyed any brain cells, the restaurant staff have overheard the plans and are making plans of their own to hijack the heist. So with the help of a moody waitress, a roast-duck-obsessed chef and an ancient ex-Hong Kong cabbie who's a few steamed dumpling's short of a Dim Sum, the staff embark on the job. The catch - do the raid and be back before the bill is paid.

  • Possibly one of the worst Australian films of 2003..........

Often, Australian movies are not released to VHS nor DVD in Australia. This is one such title. I had to import it from Poland, though it was still in English, which mattered little because it would have been equally comprehensible in Polish. I don't know of Antony Redman, the director. His biography suggests that he's an advertising whiz-kid, which he may or may not be. But it also states that he continues to be involved in film-making projects. Please, no. If "The Long Lunch" was supposed to be funny (as the blurb on the DVD artwork suggests), it wasn't. It was both excruciatingly painful to watch and a total waste of the time and effort I paid to have a copy delivered to Australia. Antony, stay with advertising. Your genius is needed there more than in the film industry.
