Tryst (1994) Reviews
Stylish and fun film noir thriller
I don't know what the previous reviewer was expecting from this low-budget thriller when he reviewed it; I think he overlooked many of the great qualities of this fine little film. David Warner and Louise Fletcher are such fine actors that it is just a joy to watch them. As for the story, it is a clever, almost Hitchcock-like tale, always keeping us guessing right up until the end as to who the killer actually is. All eyes point to the main character, a young man named Johnny La Spada who has gone to a mansion in Santa Barbara, California, to find his birth-mother. He has been seduced by an unhappily married older woman (Barbara Carerra), who is both deceptive and beautiful. The film has a number of fairly graphic nude love scenes, but I feel that their use here is not gratuitous; rather it is just one of many techniques that give this film a very European look and feel. There is an exploration into the oft-examined lives of the ridiculously rich and just how much some people will try to get away with. If you're looking for a fun 90 minute ride that enables you to play a part in the investigation of the questions in the story then Peter Foldy's "Tryst" is definitely worth checking out.
Awful
"Tryst" tells of a young man, the result of a tryst, who visits a posh Santa Barbara estate in search of his birth mother and winds up involved in...um, stuff. The flick plays like a really bad soap with actors mechanically reading their lines, is so unconvincing it's laughable, and is simply not worth watching.
Intrigue
This movie reminds me the Alfred Hitchcock´s stories, it is interesting at the end, when finally knows who´s the heir and why . During the film any presumption about the final plot results wrong . The movie have some sex scenes and miss Barbara Carrera (Julia) interpret well as an unhappy and frivolous wife.
How Bad Can it Get?
Wow, I'm taking time to review quite possibly one of the worst films ever made. Why? Because I can't believe some people got together and spent their money on this rat turd. The acting, the directing, but most especially the screenplay, are simply horrible, worse than anyone can imagine. This horrid soap opera-like movie leads me to believe that anyone can make a film, no matter how ridiculous the story, nor how terrible the directing--both handled by one person, whose name shall remain missing to protect his family! How about that rape scene, with the actor's pants fully on? How about the bully nurse whose actions are preposterous! How about the cop getting hit by a car, crashing onto its windshield, and then walking away with a couple bruises? How about the twisted story line and the really wretched acting? Yes, there are a couple sexy moments, but give me a break! After all this bashing, this film would be great to show friends on a rainy night--especially when in need of some laughs.
