VeggieTales: Beauty and the Beet (2014) Reviews

  • Much better than I expected!

    HippieMoon942018-11-12

I've been a long time fan of VeggieTales movies since I was a young child. Lately, unfortunately, I haven't enjoyed the later works that much because of what I felt like were not very good storylines. However, this video was like a breath of fresh air. The songs were catchy. The storyline was not only good, but incredibly relevant in everyday life. I liked the characters, and their interactions with one another were natural and easy like the family they were supposed to embody. The jokes were laugh out loud funny for the most part. I loved it because it was an all around good movie. Hopefully they continue to release movies of this high caliber again.

  • The worst Veggie Tales show I have ever seen!

I just watched the first 30 minutes of this and I gave up. I am 20 years old and I still love Veggie Tales videos. But this is just awful! I was nervous to see what the other 27 minutes would bring, and I didn't really care to know. Beauty and the Beet is supposed to match the original fairy tale. I am not sure how it does, but I DO know that it would have most likely been better had they adapted Disney's version. Kids could also connect with it more that way. The animated one from 1991 was the first animated movie to get nominated for Best Picture. This should be nominated for a Razzie! In this 30 minutes, there are 7 songs, one being the theme song and another being the actually very good Silly Song. That's one of my favorites, in which Larry recalls his ancestor's creation of Marconi and Cheese. But the others suck and are not memorable. I can't even think of lyric examples right now! This is the same company that brought us songs like God Is Bigger, Good Morning George, and Keep Walking. And not to mention Silly Songs like The Hairbrush Song, His Cheeseburger, and Love My Lips! Veggie Tales is also known for it's humor. In my favorite episode, The Star of Christmas, there is a scene where Cavis says their play will have something London has never seen before. Millward replies with: "You got a monkey that can yodel?" That single line still makes me laugh, among other parts. BATB lacks this. It's not absent, there is one joke that's repeated that works. All other jokes make sense, but are not humorous. I first saw a review of this from Christian Nutrition on YouTube. He recently completed his mission to review every Veggie Tales show. He said in his review that he did not want to finish it, but did for the sake of his review. I had to stop watching it. It was that terrible. This was the 2nd to last episode. After this, Noah's Ark was made, and this was so criticized by Veggie Tales fans that the series altogether had to end. Also, in 2004, Phil Vischer had to go bankrupt and give up Big Idea to Dream Works and Classic Media. Starting in 2010, they did fairy tales, which I started to enjoy(I was a fan of Pistachio and even Sweet pea Beauty.) Then the idea ran dry. Veggie Tales was not made for fairy tales, it was for Biblical truth! This is is the only 3 I have ever given. I actually have to consider this as one of the worst movies that I have watched. It's better than The Wolf of Wall Street, yet Harlem Nights beats this! This should all say something. To go from Where's God When I'm S-Scared to this is just sad. If you are a Veggie Tales fan, I highly suggest skipping this. And do not show it to any kids. Even as a time out punishment! There is no beauty in this beast.
