The act of a woman with a broken nose, who suddenly jumps out of a taxi and throws herself off the bridge in Belgrade, connects the lives of three witnesses. The suicide attempt becomes the existential catalyst to the misanthropist taxi-driver Gavrilo who tries to avoid any kind of emotional commitment, the school teacher Anica, stubbornly rejecting the attentions of one of her students, and the wacky pharmacist Biljana, who realizes that the man she's about to marry isn't The One. Each of them bears a wound from the past, a trauma they haven't yet found the courage to face. And it's here on the bridge, linking the old city with New Belgrade, that their road to recovery begins. Interwoven story becomes gently optimistic in its philosophy, yet remains credible throughout, deeply rooted in the reality and human nature.

  • Not a masterpiece, but should be seen

This is another movie from Srđan Koljević, who made "Sivi kamion crvene boje" ("The Red Colored Grey Truck"), and was the writer of "Klopka", "Nataša", "Sky Hook"... He gathered a very fine team of actors, lead by Nebojša Glogovac. The movie is part drama, part comedy. Glogovac and Jasna Žalica are in charge of the laughs, with their Bosnian speech, and with numerous stings among them. There are three main stories, all about love and all interesting. They intertwine, perhaps a bit too much for my taste. On the other hand, I didn't find too many movie patterns used, so I enjoyed it all the way. The main question raised is: should a man make emotional ties in the world where everything can easily crush to pieces. And, even though not all three stories have happy endings, I feel that the message is optimistic, for all the characters in the movie.

  • Unforgettable title = Great movie

Massive step forward from his previous work, director Koljevic pulled out almost a masterpiece with this unique BALKAN comedy. Characters like these can be found only in ex-Yugoslavian territories. A young woman with a baby and a broken nose steps out of a taxi caught in traffic jam on a Belgrade bridge leaves the baby behind in the car and throws herself into the river. The taxi driver is shocked. This suicide attempt connects the destinies of three witnesses; it triggers their emotionally "stopped" lives making them move forward. The misanthropic taxi driver, left behind with the baby, begins fighting for the life of the woman with a broken nose (outstanding Glogovac, with a totally different role that he plays in DONKEY, imagine Ben Stiller mixed with a bad luck of Woody Allen!). A young teacher faced her life trauma; and an unusual woman pharmacist leaves her fiancé looking for a real love. These characters will save each other's lives and rediscover true reasons to live. Great storytelling and even better acting makes this movie a must see on every serious moviegoers list. Don't miss it!

  • There is life in Belgrade

When a young woman attempts suicide by jumping off Belgrade bridge in, the life of several people intertwine: the taxi driver who was giving her a lift has to deal with the baby girl she left behind in the cab. A woman who sees the girl jump decides to break off her engagement (presumably inspired by so much willfulness) and flees into the car of another woman who happens to be stuck in the usual traffic jam on the bridge. The film then freely continues to portray these three characters and to evolve their stories: the taxi driver is a frustrated and emotionally stifled Bosnian Serb, who is lured out of his comfort zone by the dramatic events. The woman who broke off her engagement has to face that she is still mourning the death of her husband a decade ago, and begins a forbidden love affair with his brother. The other woman turns out to be a teacher, who is being stalked by one of her students, although she seems to be emotionally confused about him. As it turns out, she, too harbours a dark secret. Overall, a nicely told film which serves up a slice of life from a part of the world which many of us know too little about -- and which is too often associated merely with atrocities and war crimes. It portrays the Belgradians in a likable, ironic and realistic fashion. For my taste the stories were sometimes a bit too fantastic and "movie-like".
